Kathmandu - The inaugural edition of the Sagarmatha Sambaad 2025, held in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18 under the theme “Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity,” concluded with the adoption of a landmark 25-points call for action.

Representatives from governments, international organizations, academia, the private sector, civil society and the media participated in the three-day dialogue, which aimed to draw global attention to the critical role of mountain ecosystems in addressing the climate crisis.

The declaration reaffirmed global commitments to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C and called for accelerated climate actions aligned with the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The declaration highlighted the disproportionate impacts faced by mountain communities, who contribute the least to global emissions but bear severe consequences such as glacier melt, floods, droughts and extreme weather events.

The participants acknowledged the urgency of coordinated global action and lauded Nepal’s leadership in initiating Sagarmatha Sambaad as a permanent forum for global climate dialogue. The forum aspires to bridge the gap between the highlands and lowlands, ensuring that voices from the mountains echo in international climate negotiations.
